Our Post is located in northwest Bexar County. We have approximately 450 VFW members and 75 members of the Ladies Auxiliary. We are a benevolent veteran service organization.
Direct community involvement is a major VFW priority, with our main goal; to help veterans in need and to work with our local, state, and national elected officials on Veteran related issues. Our members help raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Support Center and the five Fisher Houses located in San Antonio, Texas. Our second major goal is to foster patriotism within the community. We do this by working with local youth groups and various adult organizations.
Each year our VFW awards over $1500.00 in scholarships to local students. We do this through our Post Youth Scholarship programs such as the "Voice of Democracy" and "Patriots Pen" youth essay contest. We invite local students to participate in these essay contest and winners advance to the VFW District 20 contest level where additional scholarships can be awarded. The VFW also supports the "National Home for Children" in Eaton Rapids, Michigan which serves as a residence for orphaned and single parent children of VFW and Ladies Auxiliary members.
The VFW is a unique organization with our eligibility based on an individual having an "Honorable Discharge" from one of the branches of the Armed Forces and who has served a period of time in a designated combat area. Membership is subject to verification substantiated by a DD-214 or other authorized documentation. Post dues are $35.00 annually and Life Memberships are available with cost determined by the member’s age at the time of purchase. We are an open Post and welcome everyone so please feel free to stop by and visit.
